What Patent Simple is

Patent Simple is a basic introduction to patents and patent application drafting. No previous experience is required to enjoy.

Many patent how-to web sites try to present balanced advice, only to end up being wishy-washy about what you should actually do. At Patent Simple, you'll find narrow, practical, and sometimes opinionated strategies. If you want lists of pros and cons, you'll have to look somewhere else.

What Patent Simple is not

There are many, many things that Patent Simple is not.

Legal advice

I always recommend consulting a resistered patent agent or attorney for advice regarding patent law and your particular situation.

Case law commentary

I don't comment on case law because I want this site to remain useful for as long as possible in as many patent markets as possible. I try to keep things on this site general enough to be immune to changes case law. In addition, case law depends on the country in question and most everything on this site is generally applicable to most countries or regions that grant patents.

Patent case law is ever-changing. Maintaining an up-to-date web site dedicated to case law takes a special breed of person (i.e., not me).

For great US case law commentary visit the Patently-O blog. If you're looking for Canadian case law, check out the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) for seminars and the Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLII) for cases.

Overly serious

Patents are serious business, but learning about patent strategies doesn't have to be. If you disagree with an opinion expressed here, write me a strongly worded e-mail, count to ten, and then delete it. Trust me, it works.
